I got to tell you how amazing Wednesday was!
Me, and the first Mrs S, went to see the last ever Bristol gig of that Christian mega-group, Delirious? (who have a '?' just like another band I loved in my secular youth 'Therapy?').
With the entire Bristol area crawling around in awe over the new shopping complex, and many people thinking bad driving behaviour must be thwarted with further bad driving behaviour, things did not start well. yet it did not stop me feeling excited to see a band I've only seen once before, about 3 Christimases before.
Their openening band, Tree 63, were amazing! A classic rock trio, noisy and melodic as you like, and unafriad to mention Jesus' name in a non-churchy kind of way. They looked like the support act to the Foo Fighters, yet they were excited and passionate about one of the least 'cool' things to hit a gig: a life transformed by the love of God.
Then came Delirious? (question mark is intentional: for whatever reason, I don;t know). WOW! That's about all I can say. No, really. There was a little of the 'Jesus Rocks' element, but my toes remained uncurled, and I wanted to pogo like it was 1976.
For such a scary looking venue on the inside, and thinking of the kind of bands who have frequented the place before, I left feeling part of something magical and uplifting, not scared I was looking at someone in a 'odd' way and being messed up in a CSI kind of way.
All in all, a night to remember. I would love for all Christian-based bands to make me feel like this after a night down in Central Bristol...
